Screw Jack Ltd

Screw Jack Ltd

Screw Jack was formed in 1987 following a management buyout from Atlas Copco. Up until this point, the company’s main activity had been pneumatic tools and compressors as part of the CP Group but it had held a manufacturing licence from US screw jack company Duff-Norton for more than 60 years. The new company re-negotiated the licence and began trading with the screw jack products as the company’s main activity. Some pneumatic tools were still made for CP up until 1993 when this ceased in favour of production from India and Mexico.

Since then, Screw Jack has continued to grow it’s screw jack and gearbox business to become one of the major manufacturers in its field. There are over two million of our products successfully in operation world-wide.

As well as standard products Power Jacks has a dedicated engineering team for the design of “Special” products to suit all customer requirements

Precision Actuation Systems Ltd

Precision Actuation Systems Ltd

Precision Actuation Systems Ltd was formed in 1993 following the acquisition of Fortune Engineering Ltd that was in receivership. With a manufacturing base in Blantyre on the outskirts of Glasgow, the company manufactured a range of worm gear screw jacks, electromechanical actuators, bevel gearboxes and planetary roller screws. The company gained quality standard BS EN ISO 9001:1994.

Precision Actuation Systems built on a reputation as a “problem solver" providing many innovative solutions to industry.

Many thousands of Precision Actuation Screw Jacks operate successfully throughout the world in a wide variety of industries.

In 1996 the company became part of Precision Technology Group with sister companies Graessner GmbH and Neff AA in Germany. Fortune Engineering Ltd

Fortune Engineering Ltd

Fortune Engineering Ltd was formed in 1978. Mr Fortune who was formally a Director of Consolidated Pneumatic in Fraserburgh, absconded with a complete set of CP/Duff-Norton screw jack drawings and set up a rival business. The matter was settled out of court and Fortune Engineering traded for almost 15 years.

His business, having gone into receivership in 1992 eventually became Precision Actuation Systems in 1993. Naturally, we have a certain amount of satisfaction that these events have gone full circle and that the designs are back in our hands.

Perhaps Fortune’s one legacy was the association formed with The Illinois Tool Works in Chicago for the development of planetary roller screws. This patented product, having undergone continuous development both Precision Actuation Systems and Screw Jack is manufactured in our plant in Fraserburgh under an exclusive world-wide license from ITW and marketed under the Spiracon and Rolaram brands.

Neeter Drive Limited

Neeter Drive Limited

The Neeter Drive range of bevel gearboxes were originally designed and manufactured a company called R.D.Gordon Ltd.

R.D.Gordon was formed during the 1940s to manufacture aircraft components and subsequently specialised in manufacturing special products for customers. The company was originally based in Carshalton, just outside of London but during the early 1960’s moved to Bognor Regis in Sussex.

Having been asked one particular customer for bevel gearboxes, the series 1, 2, 3 and 4, were designed and a range was born.

In 1976 a substantial number of products were added to the range in order to compete with rival companies predominantly in the US. The new range was more compact and looked “Neater”, hence the company name was changed to Neeter Drive Limited.

During the 1980’s, Neeter Drive decided to consolidate the range, dropping the very old Series 1,2,3 etc. and the least popular of the other gearboxes, including the Series 15, also became obsolete. The range then consisted of the Series 35, 37, 38, 39 & 40 (don’t ask about the 36 - as it never existed), available with solid shafts, hollow output shafts and motor input flanges.

In addition, the company began to manufacture, under license from US based company Limitorque mc, a range of screw jacks known as the “Pow-R-Jacs” range.

During the 1990’s the range was given another “revamp” that included many new features and considerable technical improvements. In 1996, Neeter Drive was acquired the Precision Technology Group and in 2002, Neeter Drive was acquired Screw Jack Ltd. All manufacturing of the bevel boxes is now located at the Power Jacks plant in Fraserburgh.
